Within the ECIU University and framework of Work Package ”Challenge-Based Education” (WP3), the Center for Teaching and Learning of Hamburg University of Technology offers all partners of the ECIU University an introduction workshop to Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) on January 27th 3-5 pm (CET). Scope

The workshop addresses basic principles of Challenge-Based Learning (CBL). Find more information about CBL here.

Main goals are:

  1. giving a good start to those implementing CBL in their teaching,
  2. network building and
  3. sharing expertise.

The workshop will include:

  • an introduction about basic principles of CBL (ECIU definition, theory behind, focussing the 3 steps)
  • examples of CBL

Target Group

We welcome professors, teaching assistants and student teacher assistants whose educational offerings for Spring/Summer Term 2021 or the Autumn/Winter Term 2021/22 are rooted in Challenge-Based Learning as well as local CBL experts (teachers or staff of centres of teaching and learning or similar) from all ECIU university partners.

Workshop structure

The workshop will be online with a workload of about 3,5 hours (plus breaks) and will include self-study times and time in plenum. We will use “Padlet” as online collaboration tool and “Zoom” (TUHH campus licences) as video conference system.

Participants will be asked to read a short text and prepare a first task with a workload of about 1,5 h two days before the workshop. More information follows via mail.

Workshop day will start 3 pm and finish 5 pm (all times CET).

03:00 – 03:30 am: welcome, initial impulse and discussion

03:30 am – 04:15 pm: impulse presentations by CBL experts of ECIU network and a short break

04:15 – 04:45 pm: discussion and working phases in small groups

04:45 – 5:00 pm: closing remarks
