Visiting Students - EUR 1500,00; Fee waivers may apply in the case of student exchange schemes like Erasmus; Students wishing to do a single course unit from an Exchange Package can opt to apply for “isolated course units” where the fees range from €40,00 - €60.00 per ECTS credit, depending on subject area.

The Courses

Engineering Thermodynamics - 6 ECTS

1. Complement and consolidate the skills from previous courses, and particularly from Termodinâmica Macroscópica;

2. Give to the students a comprehensive, appealing and rigorous structure for the analysis of problems involving exchanges and transformations of mass and energy;

3. Prepare the students for the analysis and solution of problems on professional activity, and on life in general;

4. Give to the students the sensibility for the problems related with energy, and for the relevance of operating on an efficient way with equipment, systems and processes, as well as to give to the students the adequate tools for the analysis and evaluation of efficiency and of the efficiency of the energy use;

5. Prepare the students for some courses that follow Termodinâmica Aplicada, and in particular for the courses: Mecânica dos Fluidos and Engenharia Térmica, Máquinas Térmicas and Aquecimento, Ventilação e Ar Condicionado, Projeto de Sistemas Térmicos, Gestão de Energia, Mecânica dos Fluidos Computacional, Térmica Industrial, Energia Mobilidade e Transportes, Térmica de Edifícios, Frio Industrial, Análise Energética de Processos, and eventually MSc Dissertation/Project/Stage.

Thermal Machines - 6 ECTS

A 4rd year subject of MIEM where it is intended to:

- introduce general concepts related to thermal machines;

- thermal engines description and modelling;

-thermal engines and energy efficiency and sustainability.

Industrial Thermics - 6 ECTS

This course is intended for students who wish to develop and enhance their knowledge of heat transfer namely in the subjects of heat transfer with phase change, heat exchangers, radiation heat transfer and mass transfer, which are important in industrial processes.

Energy, Mobility And Transports - 6 ECTS

The course "Energy, Mobility and Transportation" has as main audience target students from Engineering, namely students from the Integrated Master on Mechanical Engineering and the Master on Engineering and Industrial Management. The main objectives of the course are:

- Understand the present situation of the transportation sector in terms of energy and environment;

- Identify the main propulsion technologies (conventional and alternatives) on the different transportation modes;

- Use numerical modelling tools to calculate pollutant emissions and fuel consumption;

- Analyse problems of urban mobility and identify solutions for a sustainable mobility in terms of energy and environment;

- Identify alternative fuels and alternative propulsion technologies.

Thermics of Buildings - 6 ECTS

The overall objective of the course Thermal Buildings focuses on design, design, driving and maintenance of buildings Climate systems, whether passive or active type, using for this purpose appropriate computational tools, including dynamic simulation of the energy consumption buildings.

This general objective can be broken down into three specific objectives, namely:

Understanding the building as an energy system (with special emphasis on the thermal component, ie, air conditioning and respective applicable regulatory constraints);

Use of dynamic simulation tools in energy consumption of buildings in the design and analysis of these type of system (buildings);

How to apply

Application procedure is similar to mobility applications, that is, candidates are either appointed by their institutions of origin or the candidate addresses directly the International Office that guides the candidate and contacts the candidate’s institution of origin. Application may be done on paper, by post and by email and is checked by the International Office.

What are the necessary documents?

- application form

- learning agreement signed by the candidate and the institutions of origin

- transcript of records

- photocopy of valid personal identification document (ID card or passport)
