Science to Design for Society S2D4S workshop

The University of Twente and Novel-T are inviting ECIU Innovation partners for a workshop on Ethical, Legal and Societal (ELS) Readiness Levels.
With a growing need to meet the Sustainable Developments Goals, cities are confronted with increasingly difficult questions to define appropriate action to work on these global challenges and at the same time respond to specific local drivers and needs of their citizens, (semi)public authorities, industries and typical community-led initiatives. The workshop will both address how to do justice to the new role of cities, specifically framed in the context of smart regional developments, as well as to identify how universities could play a role in identifying and meeting knowledge gaps.
Using the concept of ELS, the target of the S2D4S workshop will be to develop a practical framework to better judge the impact of smart developments. The workshop aims to create a common understanding of this concept as a topic for collaboration, and to prepare the outlines of a joint white paper on its application by the ECIU members. The workshop targets ECIU member representatives and their city/regional administration and business colleagues. Also, representatives from the Enschede sister cities are being invited to take part.
The workshop will be led by Dr Michael Nagenborg who is an Assistant Professor at the Philosophy of Science Department of the University of Twente.
