The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) is looking for an intern to help represent the network in Brussels. As an intern, you closely follow EU policy developments, identify opportunities for ECIU member institutions, and help to communicate them to the ECIU network. You represent ECIU towards Brussels’ policymakers and stakeholders, and help raise the profile of ECIU as an important contributor to the EU policy debate.

The intern will be based in Brussels, together with Olga Wessels, the ECIU Head of Brussels Office, and colleagues of Aalborg University, one of ECIU’s member universities. Together with the Brussels office, you will co-shape your learning experience related to your academic background, career and personal development interests. The internship will help develop your competences as well as expand your European network.

Your tasks

As an intern, you will be an active part of all office activities, including:

  • Research-, analysis-, and communication tasks.
  • Participating in (mostly online) conferences, seminars, workshops and meetings in Brussels on behalf of ECIU.
  • Staying updated on the EU policy developments within the areas of expertise of the office, which is mostly education, research and innovation policies.
  • Supporting the information flow between the ECIU Brussels office and the member universities.
  • Close cooperation with the colleagues from Aalborg University. AAU is a member of ECIU and shares office spaces with ECIU.
  • Entering into the daily running of the office and helping out with planning and hosting meetings, events and other activities.

Your profile

  • Preferably a Master student at one of ECIU’s member universities.
  • With an interest in and knowledge about European politics.
  • Developed English skills in both writing and speaking.
  • Thorough, structured, and able to take on independent responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills


About the ECIU Brussels Office:

ECIU is a strong and active network of Europe's most entrepreneurial and innovative universities. The thirteen partners have already been cooperating within ECIU since its foundation in 1997. There is cooperation in the field of education, in promoting entrepreneurship amongst students and staff and in exploring new ways of collaborating with business, industry and the public sector. Since 2019, the ECIU is pioneering with its challenge-based ECIU University, one of the first Erasmus+ European Universities. The Brussels Office advises the colleagues of ECIU on EU policy developments. The focus is mainly on EU education-, research-, and innovation policies, including the specific programmes (Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, and Horizon Europe).

The office is located very centrally in Brussels with several other interest organisations in the same building. There will be lots of opportunities to spar with other interns during the internship period.

Terms of employment

ECIU will provide an allowance of €500 a month and cover travel expenses at the start and the end of the internship. Additionally, there is the possibility of applying for an Erasmus+ grant.

The internship is from September/October 2021 until February 7 2021.
