This year it will completely change its educational model given the world ́scurrent challenges. TEC21 Educational Model is one of the most remarkable developmentssince the establishment of this Mexican university 75 years ago.
TEC21 Educational Model is a challenge-based learning model with a flexible curricularstructure and empowered professors that will result in a memorable experience for thestudents.
This new teaching-learning concept is committed to an education focused on practical challenges, combining educational theory and development of competencies.
“50% of the learning experience will occur while the student is solving challenges, many of them outside of the classroom, in which they will incorporate previous knowledge to develop professional competencies,” (David Garza, Rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey)
The model is flexible because it allows the students to explore other curricular areas, enroll in different types of classes and follow a variety of specialization paths.
It also encourages the option to take classes in different parts of the country or abroad, in a .face-to-face or a distance learning modality
It also features experienced and empowered professors that contribute to a memorable student experience through classes that range from arts, sports, and leadership, ensuring as well the nutritional, psychological and emotional well-being of the students.
BACKGROUND
“Back in 2013 we stated that we would evolve towards a new educational model: TEC21. Since then, we started a design process that included academic groups, visits to more than 40 universities worldwide, and meetings with experts,” declared the Rector.
“We strive to have the students learn to face the uncertainty and change, and we hope they develop (...) the ability to solve complex issues and adapt to new situations,” he added.
The model has been implemented partially for 4 years now, with activities where the students tackle challenges under the guidance of their professors alongside a training partner (NGO, company or public entity), for a week or a semester.
ALL SET!
Starting in August 2019, all the components of the new model will be included in the curricula for all the professional majors at the 26 campuses of Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico.
One of the goals of the TEC21 Educational Model is to have the students further unleash and develop their potential to transform their environment in light of the challenges of the 21st century, said Garza. “With this new way of learning, the graduates will be sensible to their environment needs; they will use a systemic approach to problem-solving and a highly developed ability in doing so. (The graduates) not only will be equipped to obtain a job, but also to create their own opportunities.” he added.
The new TEC21 Educational Model has been created, undoubtedly, supported by the technology, pedagogy, and with the educational innovation that identify Tecnológico de Monterrey. This educational model promises, and guarantees, that it will transform education within and beyond Tecnológico de Monterrey.
