Project overview

The aim is to use berry by-products generated after processing to develop effective biorefining technologies that produce high-nutritional-value and health-beneficial functional ingredients. Berry by-products will be extracted and fractionated using modern techniques and their phytochemical composition will be determined through various chromatography and spectroscopy methods. The obtained extracts will be evaluated for their antioxidant potential using several in vitro assays, and anti-inflammatory activity will be tested in both in vitro and in vivo studies. Finally, a topical semi-solid formulation for skin application will be developed, incorporating active ingredients in concentrations and combinations that maximize their effectiveness based on the project's findings. The product's shelf life and storage conditions will also be assessed. This may lead to improved outcomes in addressing various skin concerns or specific skin conditions.
