Electronics III is a full semester introductory course on digital circuits and systems electronics and associated integrated circuit technologies.The course includes theory lectures and lab classes. The theory lectures aim at providing students with a general knowledge on basic combinational and sequential circuits, quality metrics, and design techniques for VLSI implementation. In the lab classes key aspects of representative circuits are studied further, following planned lab works that include experimental measurements and the use of CAD tools for circuit simulation and physical layout of integrated circuits.
(i) Complement the subjects given in the Communication Systems I course (TDM, time division multiplex);
(ii) study of optimized communications systems achieving minimum error rate;
(iii) comparison of practical systems with these systems;
(iv) study of error control techniques.
The main objectives of Power Electronics is to provide students with knowledge that can fill the "gaps" between the disciplines of Electrónica 1 and 2, Interfaces e Periféricos and Electrónica 4 (all mandatory disciplines in the course Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia Electrónica e Telecomunicações from the Aveiro University). The main goal is to provide the students with "solid ideas" in the area of the low and medium power circuits.
Study the structure of the basic types of optical fibers and understand the light propagation process on cylindrical waveguides, as well the main linear and non-linear phenomena associated;
Study the operation principle, fundamentals and characteristics of the main components involved in a fiber-optic communication system (FOCS): laser, optical amplifier (EDF, Raman, SOA), photodetectors (PIN, APD);
Amplitude modulation (direct vs external);
Modulador Mach-Zhender: Advanced modulation formats (amplitude and phase);
Basic technologies and architectures for next generation access passive optical networks.

The main objectives of Radio-Frequency Electronics focus on the basic analysis and design knowledge of high-frequency frequency circuits for wireless communication systems applications.
The main aim of the RSD option is to provide an integrated view of all knowledge acquired by students during the four years of study in the field of radio communications. Having a sense of the future framework of students in the labor market, this discipline was prepared having in mind the scientific component and specialized technical areas such as fundamental training necessary for the proper performance of the future engineer and researcher. This subject is given more emphasis to the physical layer in the OSI model, addressing briefly the upper layers in the last chapters of specific study of some radio communications systems. The main aim of the radio systems course is to provide a view of the applications of radio communication to particular cases. It is intended that the student is able to design and discuss a radio system for a network of sensors, or an RFID system, or to an emerging area of Wireless Power Transmission.
Application procedure is similar to mobility applications, that is, candidates are either appointed by their institutions of origin or the candidate addresses directly the International Office that guides the candidate and contacts the candidate’s institution of origin. Application may be done on paper, by post and by email and is checked by the International Office.
