About the poster submission

PhD students from ECIU member universities are invited to submit proposals for poster presentations of their recent research results, research activities in progress, new ideas and other research projects which may be of interest to ECIU research community and aligned with ECIU University and SMART-ER vision and mission.

We encourage submissions in the following four broad societal challenges framed under the SDG 11: circular economy, transport and mobility, energy and sustainability and resilient communities.

Poster session provide the opportunity for researchers to get feedback on early-stage research. Posters would be presented in an in-person poster session where author(s) stand by their poster and speak with participants of the conference. At least one author of an accepted poster is expected to be present at the conference to discuss their research and answer questions during the poster session.


Topics covered

Work that is suited for the poster track includes but is not limited to preliminary results, new interactions or experiences that have not been fully tested but show great potential, summaries of small-scale research (same topics and keywords as in section “Call for challenges”).


How to participate

If you would like to participate, please send an extended abstract (max 4000 words) of your poster presentation written in English through the  online registration form (will be added soon).

Submitted papers will be assessed by the SMART-ER Research Field Coordinators supported by the Scientific Committee looking for innovative thinking, scientific merit and relevance to the topic of ECIU University Research Conference.  Selected candidates will be informed at the beginning of July, 2023. Selection will be based on the assessment of the extended abstracts.

We are fully committed to gender equality and inclusivity and strive to promote gender parity in all ECIU work. The Scientific Committee reserve the right to ensure overall balance when making the final selection of posters.

 

No fee shall be paid for the contributions sent to the ECIU University Conference in the context of the call for posters. 2 proposals with the highest scores from each ECIU member university will be supported with travel grants for covering traveling expenses to the conference.

Eligibility criteria

To take part in this call for posters, participants must be currently enrolled in a PhD programme in one of the ECIU member universities and include as co-authors their supervisor/s or his/her consent.

Submission of proposals

  • To enter in the running call for presenting your  poster, please fill in the form available online.
  • Proposals must be submitted electronically via this website and must conform to the terms and conditions here included.
  • The form and all complementary information will have to be filled out entirely in English. Proposals in other languages will not be accepted. 
  • The organization reserves the right to ask for any clarification or additional information about the submitted documents.
  • No additional documents to the web form will be accepted, unless requested by the organization.

Online form to be fulfilled require (among other details):

  • Short bio of the poster presenter (max. 300 characters including spaces);
  • Topic (selecting from the list);
  • Keywords (max. 5);
  • Submission title (max. 100 characters including spaces);
  • Extended abstract (max. 4000 characters including spaces). 

The PhD candidates with accepted posters will be required to provide: 

  • A   poster in the provided template;
  • A2-page paper describing the content of the poster;
  • A short video (2-3 minutes) explaining the poster to a virtual visitor.

You will be able to apply to attend the conference, to participate as a main facilitator or co-facilitator of a challenge session, or to present a poster.

Call for challenges

This call for challenges is looking for the most relevant contributions to provide a fair and direct comparison of different methodological approaches to a common problem. Challenges should address a well-defined open problem relevant to SDG11 to make cities sustainable, inclusive, equitable, safe, healthy and collaborative places.
