How high tech facilities of partner universities can be used with the ECIU mobility fund
Ali Baghizadeh, a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Materials and Ceramics Engineering, and CICECO Institute of Materials – Aveiro, is one of the researchers who spent a period at the University of Twente, within the ECIU mobility Fund. “In the Department and MESA+ Institute, I met many experts with different nationalities, a further opportunity to expand my networking”, he reported.
Ali Baghizadeh is a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Materials and Ceramics Engineering, and CICECO Institute of Materials, Aveiro. His research is focused on epitaxial growth of multiferroic oxide films in collaboration to the Department of Physics, University pf Minho, where he was using pulsed laser deposition for film growth.
New advancement in the field of oxide superlattice motivated him to consider more sophisticated engineering of multiferroic films with few unit cells thickness. To accomplish his ambition, he had to use facilities allowing in-situ monitoring of film growth with unit cell precision.
Within ECIU consortium, he found the University of Twente (Department of Inorganic Chemistry), one of the world leading Universities in developing pulsed laser technique.
While he was staying there, he got training on their available facilities to conduct his research. Also he had opportunity to attend weekly social and scientific events of the Department, and a few days workshop on recent breakthrough in oxide expitaxy organized by the Department. In the Department and MESA+ Institute, he met many experts with different nationalities, a further opportunity to expand his networking. Based on his work within the ECIU grant, currently he is spending 6 months visit in ETH, Zurich supported by FCT fund, to implement complementary research on samples he produced in University of Twente.
As a closing sentence, he always appreciate the kind support of the ECIU team in University of Aveiro, which without their help, such program and travel visit is almost impossible.
